Who is Khatu Shyam Baba?
Khatu Shyam Baba, also known as Shree Shyam Baba or Khatu Naresh, is a highly revered deity in the Hindu tradition. He is believed to be an incarnation of Barbarik — the grandson of Bhima (one of the Pandava brothers) from the Mahabharata epic.
According to legend, Barbarik possessed three infallible arrows given to him by Goddess Bhagwati. Before the Mahabharata war, Lord Krishna (in the guise of a Brahmin) asked Barbarik to donate his head. Without hesitation, Barbarik gave his head as a sacrifice. Pleased by this ultimate act of devotion, Lord Krishna blessed him: "In Kaliyuga (the current age), you will be worshipped as Shyam and will be the support of the defeated and downtrodden."
